The world’s LARGEST commercially available billet crank at 84mm proudly built in the USA to higher metal standards and strengths. This brings your Subaru engine closer to the ideal "square engine" with an 84mm billet crank and OEM standard 99.5mm bore. Not only does this help response, offer less side wall loads than larger bores but it also improves the combustion with a more controlled burn because of the small bore. This allows Crawford Performance to offer the most efficient Subaru engine in the world, creating an much closer balance between torque, power and an extremely wide power band.
With the introduction of the new and improved version of the 84mm billet crank (lighter and stronger than before) we have rebadged the name to a 2.7 liter engine, capable of powering on the torque where the competition cannot. To prove the potential, with a wider power band (more area under the curve) and more torque we competed at the 2009 Modified Magazine Shootout. Down over 60 whp to the closest competitors engine but we went out and set a NEW track record and won the Time Attack. As always, there is no replacement for displacement.
Some engines might be able to make full boost at 100+ RPM's faster than stock, we not only improve upon that by 300 RPM's more (therefore 400+ RPM's faster than stock) but also offer a lightning quick throttle response and boost response. Offering a broader power band and lower end torque this is what will give you the edge, win races and even gives you that kick in the pants feel when driving the car around town.

This high end performance piece not only talks a big game, but has the pedigree to back it up. It is the same motor that powers the famous 06 Crawford wide body Time Attack car, which incidentally has won 19 of the last 21 events it has entered. This power plant is built around a brand new EJ257 semi closed deck block. It incorporates Crawford’s exclusive counterweighted 84mm Billet Stroker Crankshaft, longer and beefier Crawford Billet I-beam rods, and Crawford’s 99.5mm custom offset forged version 3 pistons (only found in the S5 and race engines). We use a custom selected (through decades of research) high performance main bearings, rod bearings and piston rings to ensure the most efficient power at the most extreme levels. These Crawford hand selected components allow for maximum safety and reliability. No cheap knock off parts here. To keep with our high quality standards, we use Crawford offset wristpins to decrease the piston noise associated with forged pistons.
